Regular disease screening is critical to maintaining fish health.

Brood fish are screened for pathogens to ensure they are not passed to the next generation through eggs.
Each fertilized egg batch is carefully numbered and kept separate. This allows each egg batch to be traced back to the parent fish. If any egg batches are found to be positive for pathogens through disease testing, they can be identified and removed.
Every batch of smolts entered into saltwater sites is screened for pathogens prior to entry.
While in saltwater sea farms, fish are regularly screened for the presence of pathogens.
